Started in 2006, one of the key components of National Health Mission is creating a band of female health volunteers, appropriately named Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) in each village.

One of the key components of National Health Mission is creating a band of female health volunteers, appropriately named Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) in each village.
The ASHA would act as a bridge between the rural people and health service outlets and would play a central role in achieving national health and population policy goals.
After recruitment the ASHA should attend:
- Inducting Training for 8 days
- 6th & 7th Module training for 20 days
- Round-I training (5 days)
- Round-II training (5 days)
- Round-III training (5 days)
- Round-IV training (5 days)
- Refresher training for 15 days
- Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) training for 5 days
- Home Based Care for Young Child (HBNC)training for 5 days
- Elderly and Palliative Care training for 6 days.
Saheed Shibsankar Seba Samity designated as District Training Centre (DTC) for Purba Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman districts for conducting ASHA training. It is a fully residential training Programme. The DTC is also recognized by NIOS. DTC has been conducting ASHA training in two venues–
- It’s main building and
- “Sanklpa” Bio-Tech Bhawan, Hatudrwan Pirtala.
In Purba Bardhaman district, there are 3979 Rural ASHAs and 181 Urban ASHAs in position and in Paschim Bardhaman district, there are 706 Rural ASHAs and 669 Urban ASHAs in position (31.12.2023).
One Training Coordinator, two Assistant Training Coordinators, twenty one District Trainers, three female wardens, one part time accountant and one part time DATA Entry operator involve for conducting ASHA training. The State ASHA Cell, Swasthya Bhawan and District Health & Family Welfare Samity, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman Districts guide and support the overall training programme.
